I have question, if you don't mind a to buy/not to buy query.
There is a 1995 SAAB 900 four-door for sale down the street from me. They are taking $1350 or Best Offer. It looks pretty nice, leather interior, still shiny, neat features etc... and I've heard good things about pre-GM SAAB.
However, this car has a few concerns: It has over 210,000 miles (A problem or no?)
Shifting is "unsmooth" (Standard?)
I will almost certainly have to buy a new transmission. (OUCH)
(Internet) Research has shown that the gas mileage of this car is only a few more MPG than my current demoncar, Claudius.
I've been on the lookout for a new vehicle for a while to replace my mother's hand-me-down 2000 Chrysler Town and Country since it's a gas-guzzling monster death trap and I would prefer something smaller. (and she could theoretically take it from me on a whim.) The only thing I can think of that would make the purchase of my neighbors SAAB worth it, would be if I could expect several more years of safe use from the SAAB versus the Chrysler.
Is it worth it to phone the seller?

So, in order, I've owned a 1995 VW Golf, an 88 VW Golf, an 88 Volvo 740 Turbo, and most recently a 99 Saab 9-3SE. I wasn't/am not ready to part with the Saab. I put a catalog sport exhaust kit on it, a Genuine downpipe and race cat, Koni shocks/springs, poly bushings, a steering rack/clamp/brace and rear arb. It hauled and handled. But after a woman pulled out in front of me and caused a collision, it looks like damage excedes value and I'm dealing with a 'total loss.' They only want to give me about $4.5K for it.
I'm thinking of putting that toward a new, used car instead of trying to repair it. (But I'm still gonna get a second opinion on the repair costs.) So anyway, I've narrowed my choices down to an M3, a Viggen, a TT or an S60. What do you think?

searching for pictures
Does anyone have pictures of the writing "Isabella" from an old Borgward Isabella, preferably in high quality, but I'll take everything I can get? I tried google and everything else I could think of, but I didn't find anything. There's only the writing "Borgward", but I don't want / need that one. ;)
So if anyone can help me out I'd be very grateful.
Thanks in advance! :) Current Mood: chipper

Need smbd's help

1983 Porsche 944 FOR SALE
I'm selling my 1983 Porsche 944.
I'm located in Lake Worth, FL.
It has 98,500 miles and is in great condition.
MAKE ME AN OFFER - I need to sell.
The car is in excellent shape and is an every-day driver. I'm selling it because I need something bigger. It's fast, automatic, has a clean title and has been kept in very good shape, inside and out. There is a minor scratch near the driver-side rear-wheel, and the passenger seat has a tear in it, but has been kept covered by a seat cover. The AC will work once a leak is patched. The speedometer and odometer are off, they work when they want to. It's an easy repair, however, and I know for a fact that the milage is under 98,500k. Other than that, this car is running smoothly and ready-to-go!! It has a Porsche 944 decal on the front windsheild, and the Porsche logo on the rear. It has two large speakers that glow blue light in the back that are hooked up for extra full-volume. For maintenance purposes, the cooling system and AC system have been cleaned recently, and the windshield wipers and all the hoses have been replaced. It has brand-new seat covers and a leather steering-wheel cover, as well as a hook-up for a radar detector.
This is a very reliable car that will never let you down.

well, george and i went to bradenton and snagged the '79 300sd for $1200. it has some rust and has had floorpan repairs before. the odometer stopped at 237,000 miles, and the engine wins a 6/10. i'm not sure how much life it has left. Compression is good, it misses in cylinder number 5. Never the less, i was not worried about making the 130 mile trip back to orlando. the 300sd was reliable and such and performed well . it had a 3.09 differential...good pickup and an excellent transmission: one big problem though: it burned oil like a mofo. on the way back it guzzled four quarts of oil. the oil was so low that i couldn't attain 45 bars of oil pressure. my first thought was that the check valve for the oil pressure was defective, but i rememebered that this wouldn't have happened after 4 hours of driving. in the morning i had a look at it and the dip stick showed nothing.
why is this car burning so much oil?
reason one: excessive oil ring wear from the past: bad oil will kill your ring sin your early turbodiesel. compression and power were excellent. no blakc or white smoke, just blue. solution: amsoil 15w40 synthetic. doesn't burn easily and when mixed with an additive will usually not deteriorate too fast.
poor oil in it initially: when we got the car, i noticved the oil wa slow so i added a quantity of my fav, shell rotella 15w40. the problem is that shell burns off, as does crappy autozone 15w40 fleet maintenance. the oil quality will have contributed heavily to this.
finally, turbo problems: this car has a good turbo, but its PCV valve might be defective, causing more oil that normal to find its way into the intake and thus into the turbo. more burnoff...ladida
the ca rhas new valve seals...which is another cause of mercedes oil burning.
but my point is...george will have to be careful: this car burns oil. Current Mood: frustrated

new to community
hey whats shakin....my name is peter and i'm from orlando, Florida, where i'm known as the "guy with many mercedes". to be exact, i just have three, all of which are 115 series diesels [my favorite]. my cars and i are inseparable.
in order, they are :
Heidi...a 1974 240d with 322,000 on tap. yellow on brown....
betty...a 1973 220d with 206,000...baby blue with white vinyl
karl...1969 220d...4speed with ivory on brown and 344,000 miles.
i like these cars alot. thats why i work on them [my father and i won a mercedes service facility in rockledge...but i do most of the mercedes work.
i am a diehard fan of the pre 1986 mercedes diesels and i wouldn't be caught dead driving anything else. i've owned three others [i have had heidi since i was 15] . my others included a 1985 300sd, a 1982 300sd [my moms, them mine then my mom's again] a 1972 220d [black on chocloate] and a 1976 240d [white...auto.....yuck] . my siblings who can drive have a1982 and 1983 240d.
so ya. is that too much diesel for you? lol. i wish dad would get out of his ford e250 ...diesel of course...
so ya...mb diesels literally are forever. lol.

Car for Sale
I have a basically NEW 9-3 with 5000 miles on it. I love this car and it drives amazing.
It is loaded with:
16'' alloy wheel
Cold weather package
6 CD in dash changer
Custom made silver dash makes the inside look SHARP
the only option it doesn't have in Onstar
It is a really nice Steel Grey Metallic and I have babied the car. It gets about 23 MPG city and 34 highway and the 2.0L turbo charged engine really flys.
The stick on this car was $32,000 plus $800 for the dash
I would sell it for $26,000
I am purchasing a horse and I need a truck that can pull a trailer.
I am located in upstate NY

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask questions, or not. I am trying out quite a few communities to see if I can get some responses to my problem. I am bored with my car... and I am currently stuck in a lease. I am looking to purchase or lease a new car, but it will be expensive for me to break the agreement I signed. I am hoping someone could make some suggestions of how I can get a new car without being asked for huge amounts of money on my down payment due to my lease. I was searching online, and have found a couple places that seem like they could help me. This place Lease Trading
seems to be alright. I am not exactly sure how this process would work though. I've never used anything like this so if you have could you let me know what you think... that would be great. From everything I have read this place is legit. And they have some great luxury vehicles up... the website say that the can find someone to assume your lease so you dont have to pay... It also says I can cut the cost of breaking my lease in half. Well anyhow... I am rambling. Is a lease assumption even possible?
